Detached House Extension & Renovation Belfast

The Brief:

The existing 2-storey detached house with limited accommodation to meet the needs of a growing family. Review the existing accommodation and provide a new open-plan living space that maximizes the existing layout and deals with the awkward existing stair position blocking access to the rear of the dwelling. Clients wanted a contemporary look and feel for the new accommodation in contrast to the existing house.

The Solution:

– Move the existing stair to open up the potential for new access to a new family kitchen/living/dining area and extend the first floor, relocating the bathroom and providing two new bedrooms for the growing family.
– The first-floor accommodation is cantilevered over the ground floor to minimize glare from the south-facing elevation.
– Contemporary use of contrasting brick with Cedar cladding for the first-floor bedroom accommodation.
